Refrigeration Cycle
1) Explain Lithium - Bromide Absorption Refrigeration System
Characteristics of Lithium-Bromide Absorption System:
- Simple to build
- Low operational/Maintenance cost
- Customized sized system can be built according to the requirement
Refrigerant: Water
Absorbent: Lithium Bromide (Li Br)
Construction: The system consists of 2 cylinders. One cylinder consist of high pressure and other consists of low pressure.
2) Difference between VCR and VAR system
VCRS (Vapor Compression Refrigeration System) | VARS (Vapor Absorption Refrigeration System) |
---|---|
It consumes high grade energy. i.e. Mechanical Energy | It consumes low grade energy. i.e. Heat Energy |
Vapor refrigerant is compressed. | Vapor refrigerant is absorbed and heated. |
Compressor is used. | Pump is used. |
Refrigerant of Freon Series is used. | Generally ammonia is used as refrigerant. |
COP (Coefficient of performance) is high. | COP (Coefficient of performance) is low. |
More noise and vibration. | Less noise and vibration. |
Maximum capacity is 1000 ton | Capacity is more than 1000 ton |
Initial Cost is low | Initial cost is high |
Operational cost is high | Operational cost is low |
Chances of leakage of refrigerant | Negligible leakage |
Used for domestic refrigerator, ice plants, cold storage, etc. | Used in industries where waste heat is available |
3) Explain Domestic Refrigerator
It is also known as Electrolux Refrigerator and Ammonia-Hydrogen Refrigerator.
Fluids used: Ammonia, Water and Hydrogen
No pump is used and hence there no noise in the process.
COP (coefficient of performance) is low and hence it cannot be used in industries and is only used for domestic purpose.
Long ago, this system was used for refrigeration in luxurious retaurants.
4) Factors affecting performance of a simple VCRS cycle
- Effect of suction (evaporator) pressure
- Effect of delivery (condenser) pressure
- Effect of evaporator temperature and condenser temperature
- Effect of suction vapor superheat
- Effect of liquid subcooling
